Celebrate Therapeutic Recreation Week: July 11-17

The second week of July is Therapeutic Recreation Week.  Therapeutic Recreation Week was established by the National Therapeutic Recreation Society in 1984.  The goal was to promote therapeutic recreation and the providers of services.

What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapuetic Recreation (TR) is the use of recreation and recreation services to improve the lives of people with disabling conditions to be able to live life to the fullest.

Courage Center offers many TR services including sports and recreation opportunities, the Fitness, Wellness, and Aquatics program, the Transitional Rehabilitation Recreation Program, and options available through the Chronic Pain Management Program.

Where can you find out more information?

Check out the display in the Atrium of the Courage Center in Golden Valley for more information about programs and TR.

The theme of the week is “Under the Umbrella of Therapeutic Recreation” because there are so many different ways TR can be practiced.
